Light producing Sound
The Sound of Light:
A Revelation in the Quran?
For centuries, skeptics have dismissed the idea that the Quran
contains scientific knowledge beyond its time.
They argue that any alignment between its verses
and modern discoveries are mere coincidences, like the
"Texas Sharpshooter fallacy"
(shooting an arrow into a tree and painting a target around it.)
But what if we invert the challenge?
What if a scientific truth,
yet undiscovered by human knowledge at the time of revelation,
is encoded in the Quran?
The Parable of the Mosquito
The Quran states:
“Surely Allah is not ashamed to set forth any parable
(that of) a mosquito or anything above that
then as for those who believe,
they know that it is the truth from their Lord,
and as for those who disbelieve, they say:
What is it that Allah means by this parable?
He causes many to err by it and many He leads aright by it!
but He does not cause to err by it (any)
except the transgressors”
(Quran 2:26)
The mention of the mosquito is intriguing
not merely as a metaphor
but as a potential key to unlocking a deeper mystery.
It mentions the mosquito but no parable is provided.
Where is the parable?
A Hidden Scientific Connection?
Consider the preceding verses before the mosquito ayat:
“Their parable is like the parable of one who kindled a fire,
but when it had illuminated all around him,
Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness
they do not see.”
(Quran 2:17)
“The lightning almost takes away their sight;
whenever it shines on them they walk in it,
and when it becomes dark to them they stand still.
and if Allah had pleased
He would certainly have taken away
their hearing and their sight;
surely Allah has power over all things.”
(Quran 2:20)
Taken at face value,
These verses depict human ignorance and guidance.
However, read them with a mosquito’s perspective in mind,
and a striking pattern emerges:
Mosquitoes are attracted to light,
only to be left disoriented in darkness.
They freeze in place when the light disappears,
akin to what the verse describes.
Their perception is influenced by both light and sound
but could the Quran be hinting at something more profound?
Light Producing Sound?
A Forgotten Theory
Physics tells us that light is electromagnetic
and sound is mechanical,
two seemingly unrelated phenomena.
Yet, there exists a little-known concept:
under certain conditions,
the kinetic energy of photons (light) could impart movement to atoms,
producing sound waves at frequencies beyond human hearing.
The Quran may have alluded to this
in the verses between 2:17 and 2:20
Deaf, dumb (and) blind,
so they will not turn back
Or like abundant rain from the cloud in which is utter darkness
and thunder and lightning;
they put their fingers into their ears because of the thunder peal,
for fear of death, and Allah encompasses the unbelievers
(Quran 2:18-20)
Let's identify each part of the mosquito with these ayats:
2:18 Deaf, dumb (and) blind
Lightning = Light
With the lightning and its provided light, they can see
Blind/Seeing is answered
2:18 Deaf, dumb (and) blind
Mosquitoes have "Positive phototaxis",
which refers to the directed movement of an organism
towards a light source,
a behavior that helps mosquitoes find optimal conditions
for photosynthesis or other light-dependent processes.
The mosquitoes performs something intelligent
that greatly benefits them
Dumb/intelligent behaviour is answered
2:18 Deaf, dumb (and) blind
The Quran also states deaf,
and deafness is from their own accord
..they put their fingers into their ears because of the thunder peal...
The Mosquito’s Auditory System:
A Scientific Parallel
Mosquitoes do not perceive sound in the same manner as humans.
Their auditory system is fundamentally different,
relying on specialized tympanal organs
located within the Johnston’s organ at the base of their antennae.
Unlike in humans, where the cochlea translates
sound waves into neural signals,
mosquitoes detect and interpret ultrasonic frequencies
reaching up to an astonishing 2000 Hz
far beyond the range of human hearing.
This remarkable ability allows mosquitoes to perceive vibrations
that remain imperceptible to us.
But could these detected frequencies extend
beyond conventional mechanical sound waves?
Could they include phenomena produced by light itself?
As mentioned earlier, sound is a mechanical wave
requiring a medium to propagate,
light is an electromagnetic wave,
fundamentally distinct in its nature.
However, light does possess mass, albeit not in a rest-state
and thus carries kinetic energy.
Given that kinetic energy can be transferred between particles,
one might speculate: could photons, upon interacting with matter,
generate oscillations perceptible as sound?
This raises an intriguing question about
the possible interaction between electromagnetic radiation
and mechanical resonance within biological systems.
Could mosquitoes, through their highly specialized auditory apparatus,
detect subtle vibrations induced by the kinetic effects of light upon atoms
at the sub-atomic level?
If so, this would suggest a fascinating convergence between
electromagnetism and bioacoustics
hinting at a realm of sensory perception beyond our own conventional understanding.
The Quran suggests that light and sound may be fundamentally linked,
a concept that science has yet to fully explore.
Who Discovered It First?
While modern physics is still grappling
with the possibility of light producing sound at an atomic level,
the Quran seems to have hinted at it over a millennium ago.
This isn’t merely theological speculation
it’s an invitation for science to investigate further.
Your turn, science!
